Hi there, hope you had a fabulous weekend. Have you had fun looking through the new catalog? I placed my order and now patiently waiting for it. Since I am going start teaching classes, I needed something to display my boxes, so last week I saw a post on Facebook by a fellow demonstrator, Lori Schuster who showed us a display box she built. My eyes grew big and I knew that is what I need to make. So take a look at my new display boxes showcasing all the new catalog items.
So now I have this awesome setup, which I shared about on Facebook and I was asked to write up instructions. Now you may ask why am I sharing this with you if you are not a demonstrator? Because as my husband and I built them, that thought came that how cute would these be with some plants in them, specially ones that are climbers. So, that is the reason why I am sharing this with you. I don’t have pictures of all the steps as I got carried away by actually working on the box…LOL
So what you need to purchase are the following to make ONE:
- Crate – mine is from Walmart and the size is 12x8x7 and it has this cute liner in it.
- 2×1 wood pieces in the following length: two 30″ and two 9″ length (NOTE: I bought the primed version wood, so it would be easier to paint -Home Depot
- 4 L shaped corner braces, plus screws (NOTE: you will need 16 screws, plus 4 longer ones to attach the finished frame to the crate)
- Chicken wire
- Chalk paint – color of your choice
- Small roller
So at first I painted all my pieces. This picture shows the chalk paint I used, the size of the roller I used and the braces I used.
Once I painted them, I dried them and painted the other sides as well.
Next I lined up the frame ready to add the braces and the chicken wire.
So after this picture I didn’t take any pictures as we got really involved with the chicken wire…LOL. Basically after putting the frame together with the braces, you staple the chicken wire to the back of the frame. And the last step is to screw the frame to the crate. I took some pictures of the back for you so you can see how the back looks so you can have a better idea.
As you can see we have used quite a bit of staples, but now it’s a very solid and I shouldn’t have to worry about it falling apart.
And as you can see, the crate is pretty big so you can put in two potted plants easily.
Anyway, hope you enjoyed this little tutorial and if you are demo, make one of these and if you are not a demo, you might find it useful as well. We made two in the same time and took us a couple of hours and I have to say I love the way they came out.
As I mentioned earlier, I have a class coming up with the brand new Abstract Impressions Bundle.
